Sustainable setup stream mapping (3SM): a systematic approach to lean sustainable manufacturing

This paper recommends a stepwise method, named sustainable-setup-stream-mapping (3SM), to improve manufacturing setup time and its sustainability impacts. The method is developed based on an extensive literature review, in-depth explorative research in discrete manufacturing, lean tools: value stream mapping (VSM) Single-Minute Exchange of Die (SMED). 3SM uses VSM novel way break down operations, employs SMED techniques them. also list criteria, for environmental, social, economic pillars sustainability, assess the impacts against them within workstation relevant processes. implements real-life case, where outcomes prove practicality improvements times criteria. It shows what/how criteria are influenced by activities/tasks at work station factory-wide levels, expands scope improvement.
